On 3/20/12, a discovery of human remains found near Eklutna was investigated by the Anchorage Police Department. Information obtained from the investigation, including an examination conducted at the office of the State Medical Examiner, has led to the determination that the remains are believed to be those of Loy Suthammavong, age 30, who was reported as missing from his Houston, Alaska home in December 2011. It is believed Suthammavong`s death was a result of homicide.
Alaska State Troopers were initially informed of his missing status on 12/6/11 when members of Suthammavong`s family reported he was last seen alive on about 12/2/11. The Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Bureau of Investigation began with a search of Suthammavong`s residence just as the Anchorage Police Department and Anchorage Fire Department were investigating a vehicle on fire in south Anchorage, reported at about 7:20 PM on 12/6/11. Through investigation conducted by APD and AFD, and the Division of Fire and Life Safety, it was determined the vehicle was burned as the result of arson, and that the vehicle was owned by Suthammavong.
The Alaska State Troopers Missing Persons Clearinghouse distributed a missing person bulletin and included it in a press advisory to local media outlets. From the onset, circumstances surrounding the apparent disappearance of Suthammavong were suspicious and resulted in investigators considering a variety of factors. Investigation continues.
