A Palmer Grand Jury indicted nine individuals on a combined 72 felony charges on Sept. 29, 2011 stemming from the theft of 38 firearms from the Three Bears store along the Palmer-Wasilla Highway on Sept. 18, 2011. The indictment is a result of a joint investigation by the Alaska State Troopers B Detachment Patrol, Alaska Bureau of Investigation (ABI), Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Palmer Police Department. Defendants are Wasilla residents 30-year-old Amber Helmann and 18-year-old Christopher Everly; Palmer residents 19-year-old John Stern, 19-year-old Mitchell Cupp, 24-year-old Joseph Price and 18-year-old Joseph Owens as well as Laurie Plyler, 24, of Eagle River and Kevin Angel, 29, of Chugiak. A 16-year-old Palmer boy was also involved in the case and is being charged as a juvenile. All nine face a variety of charges to include first- and second-degree burglary, second-degree theft and second-degree theft by receiving. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The majority of the firearms stolen from the store have been recovered. Joint efforts by state, federal, and local authorities are underway to recover all the stolen firearms.
The ATF announced a $2,500 reward will be offered for information leading to the recovery of the stolen firearms as well as the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the theft of firearms.

On Monday, 8-29-11 at 8:06 AM, Wasilla Police responded a report of a burglary at a TC Construction located at the corner of Nugget Avenue and Lucus Road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed seven nail/coil/screw guns worth $2,300, two mechanical saws worth $1,800, and a shotgun worth $1,500 were stolen from the business. The burglary occurred sometime between Friday 8-26 at 6:00 PM and Monday at 8:00 AM.

Investigation revealed unknown person(s) broke into the residence and stole approximately $2,500.00 worth of property and caused approximately $100.00 damage to the property. The structure was unoccupied at the time of the fire and is a total loss with damage estimated at $3,000.00. The cause of the fire is considered suspicious and investigation is ongoing.

On Monday 8/8/11 at approximately 8:40 PM, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a burglary and theft from a residence located off of E. Wanamingo Drive in Wasilla. Investigation revealed unknown person(s) broke into the residence and removed approximately $2,000.00 worth of property. There was approximately $400.00 in damage to the property and the suspect(s) also attempted to break into the storage shed on the property. Electronics stolen include Sound Ordinance P-57 car speakers, a JVC KW-XR610 CD receiver, and HPI Racing Nissan Skyline remote controlled car. Eight racing helmets were also stolen and are described as a Fox Racing V1 Camplosion, (two) Fly Lite III, Fox Racing women’s V-1, One Industries Kombat, One Industries Trooper Race, Thor Motocross Quadrant Vision, and Thor Motocross Force 2 Superlight.

Investigation revealed entry into the residence through a window, as well as approximately $1300 worth of electronic equipment stolen from the residence which included two computers and Xbox game system. On 7-5-11 at approximately 4:30 PM, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a stolen vehicle from the Burkshore Marina parking lot. Investigation revealed that sometime in the last two days, a 2005 black GMC Sierra extra cab pickup had been taken from the lot.

On 4-25-11 at about 5:50 PM, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a residential burglary off Morning Mist Drive near Nelson Road in Palmer. Investigation revealed the suspect(s) stole numerous items including an Apple IPad, Nikon camera, and a credit card from inside the home. Afterwards, the suspect(s) used the credit card at various businesses around the Wasilla area. A suspect has been developed and is described as a white male, early teens to mid twenties, medium build and approximately 6’3” tall. The suspect was wearing sunglasses and dark colored hooded sweatshirt, with the number ’87 on the side of the hood.

On 5-10-11 at approximately 2:32 AM (Tuesday morning), Alaska State Troopers responded to an unoccupied vehicle burning at the Pink Flamingo Car Wash located on the Parks Highway near Lamont Way. Central Mat-Su Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. Investigation revealed the vehicle had been intentionally set on fire, causing over $5,000 in damage to a white 1991 Toyota 4-door and other vehicles in the area. Investigation is ongoing.

Investigation revealed unknown subject(s) caused a fire damaging two vehicles. There was approximately $15,000 in damage to the camper trailer and vehicles.
